          FAQ

          Frequently asked questions

          1) Confirm page count and paper type. 2) Use the KDP cover calculator to get exact trim, spine and bleed. 3) Design a full‑wrap cover in the KDP cover creator or your editor, keeping text inside safe zones and filling the bleed. 4) Export a 300 DPI print‑ready PDF and upload to KDP.

Full‑wrap dimensions include front, back, spine, and bleed. Spine width depends on page count and paper type. Our calculator supports paperback/hardcover and white/cream paper, and outputs spec sheets and templates.

In KDP Bookshelf open your book, go to Paperback/Hardcover Content, choose ‘Upload a cover you already have (print‑ready PDF)’, upload the PDF you exported, and run the previewer. If trim, spine or barcode areas fail checks, fix in the cover creator, re‑export, and upload again.

In KDP Bookshelf, open Edit, replace the cover, and resubmit. The ASIN stays the same; storefront images may take time to refresh. BookCoversLab keeps version snapshots and visual diffs so you can revise and re‑export compliant files quickly.

Always verify the source and license; public domain isn’t always commercial‑safe. Watch for personality, trademark, or brand rights. BookCoversLab includes a licensing checklist and evidence vault and warns about potential issues before export.

KDP supports paperbacks and selected hardcovers. Hardcovers often have different bleed and dimension rules (case wrap, hinge/turn‑ins). BookCoversLab toggles modes, updates spine/bleed automatically, and outputs matching templates and export presets.

Open the KDP cover creator, start a project, choose paperback or hardcover, set trim size, page count and paper. Import artwork (or use AI), add title/author/subtitle, and position elements within the guides. Spine width updates from page count. Export a 300 DPI PDF with bleed when done.
